Dear LGBTQ Nation and author Daniel Villarreal,

We are writing regarding an article published July 24, 2023 titled "Amid Threats, Colorado hospital ends gender- affirming surgeries for adults" by Daniel Villarreal.

As members of the LGBT community and a collective called the LGBT Courage Coalition we have questions which we hope you can help answer.

 
Why was a children's hospital providing surgery and other services to adults?

 
Was the decision to stop providing surgery to adults directly due to the complaints, as the title suggests? Or was it due to, "unprecedented demands for gender affirming adult surgeries" as quoted by the hospital?

 
Why would the hospital respond to increasing demand for services with cancellations of services? Were they concerned that the referrals were somehow inappropriate?

 
Why would complaints/threats lead to the cancellation of adult services, but not pediatric services? Presumably the complaints were made about the pediatric services.

How many complaints were made?

How many surgeries had the children’s hospital completed in the past year? How many for adults and how many for minors?

We hope that you can see that the writing of this article left many unanswered questions. If you are claiming this represents a news story then it needs to provide facts and cover the basics.

This article poorly served your readers in understanding this challenging topic.
