What happens when the Democratic Party gets dragged into the light of gender truth...
Act I: The Ghost of Gender Clinics Past
The Democratic Party used to sleep so soundly, tucked under a cozy quilt stitched with slogans like “Affirmation Saves Lives.” They have turned their heads away now that Sweden—that once-progressive beacon—has slammed on its brakes about pediatric gender medicine.
Enter the Ghost of Christmas Past wearing a lab coat and an unmistakably Swedish accent.
“We were the first,” he intones. “BUT! We looked at the evidence and saw what was happening to the kids—puberty-blocked, sterilized, bones weakened, hearts burdened. All in the name of affirming something that could never be real.”
“You mean you stopped???” the Party croaks, blinking. “Progressive Sweden?”
The ghost sighs. “Ja. Progressive enough to stop experimenting on children.”
“Anyway!” the Party snaps. “You’re just one country.”
“It wasn’t just us,” says the ghost, counting ethereal fingers, “Finland. Norway. France. And soon…”
The scene fades.
Act II: The Ghost of Gender Clinics Present
The Party, violently tossing and turning, wakes with confusion to a bustling courtroom. Tavistock looms—yes, the NHS’s own gender clinic, buried under lawsuits and official reports calling its practices “unsafe” and “lacking evidence.”
The Ghost of Christmas Present is unsympathetic to the Party’s state of mind. “We’re talking about your allies here—your go-to European experts. They’re shutting it down. Pay attention!”
“But they said it was life-saving…”
“And yet the Cass Review showed that young people had been failed. There was no oversight. No thought to long-term harm. You do understand why this matters, don’t you?”
The Party blinks, the smug veneer cracking.
Before they can reply, the ghost points to another courtroom—this one in Tennessee.
Skrmetti stands like a thunderclap, a culmination of years of heartbreak and bitter truth. “In your own backyard,” the ghost says. “You should have listened to Jamie Reed. You should have listened to the detransitioners. The evidence was clear. The Courage Coalition marched on while you slept.”
The Party stammers, “B-but trans rights…and what about right wing extremists…” as the courtroom dissolves before their eyes.
Act III: The Ghost of Gender Clinics Yet to Come
The Ghost of Christmas Future isn’t as scary as one might expect. Yet.
The ghost languidly points to headlines: “Gender Clinic Lawsuits Surge.” “Democrats Lose Key Swing States Amid Scandals.”
It’s the summer of 2025. The Supreme Court’s ruling in Skrmetti lands with a thwack—and it isn’t what the activists had hoped for.
“This might get awkward,” the ghost whispers. “Families are going to ask why you fought to keep such a harmful experiment going. Voters will remember who put ideology over evidence.”
The ghost pauses and narrows its eyes. “It doesn’t have to be this way. You still have a little time,” adding, “Better hurry.”
The Party, barely audible, whimpers, “What do we doooo?”
Shrugging matter-of-factly, “Go with the truth,” says the ghost. “Stop doubling down. And LISTEN—to the whistleblowers, to the detransitioners, to what the LGB voices have been saying all along: Stop transing gay kids!”
The Party, gulping, whispers, “Maybe we, we got this…wrong?”
The ghost smiles. “That’s a start.”
Coda: A Christmas Morning
The Party wakes up, their bedclothes damp with sweat, haunted by echoes of amicus briefs and courtrooms—so much denial, so much willful blindness. They remember Missouri’s brief, Alabama’s brief, SEGM’s tireless warnings.
The Party, throwing open their window, calls down, “What day is it?!”
“Christmas, you fool!”
And they think to themselves, “Maybe, it’s not too late to get this right.”
A Final Note
This story is fictional—for now. But the evidence is mounting, the lawsuits are stacking up, and time is running out. By the summer of 2025, the Supreme Court will hand down its decision. Will the Democratic Party keep sleepwalking in their current direction, or will they wake up to their own reckoning?

This, to me, is the million dollar question: “Will the Democratic Party keep sleepwalking in their current direction, or will they wake up to their own reckoning?” Ben made a comment on the most recent Informed Dissent that spoke for me, volumes. I will likely paraphrase it incorrectly, for which I hope I can be forgiven, but it went something like this: “These people are morons. They need to catch up with where we are.”
What I am finding, even now that the Democrats have been handed their heads on a platter, is that most people in my social circle and neighborhood remain in the dark/unable to digest that the Democrats are wrong about these issues—even those with whom I have had conversations about this over time. The news ecosystems people choose to live within of course perpetuate this, as does the continued refusal of almost all Democratic electeds to change course, substantively, and to do it out loud. So, for me, the question remains, even now, how to break through without having people run for the exits because it so disrupts their view of what is liberal and what is conservative. On this, I remain at a loss.
