I suggest we all think carefully before we urge the Senate to support HR 1. Yes, the bill contains some useful stuff about pediatric gender care--that's good!--it will also very likely throw 8 million Americans off Medicaid. The passage of HR 1 would be a Pyrrhic victory at best, and I am not sure it's worth immiserating 8 million people to save a few thousand. It's a real choice and we need to consider the entire thing and not just a single aspect.

As they say: "If these provisions are stricken from the bill during deliberations it will be at least another year before there is another opportunity for this kind of reform, so it is critical that our voices are heard by our Senators now."

I agree that it's a terrible bill, but it's possible that this provision could be cut in reconciliation, and that would be even worse.

Worse than 8 million Americans losing their health insurance? No, I don't think so.

I'm committed to the cause, but in this specific instance the price is too high. We can take another bite at the apple next year, or work at the state level--or both! However, the negative health outcomes that will result from Medicare cutbacks won't be so easily accommodated.

I have already called my state's Republican senator and urged him to oppose this bill.

I of course agree with you 100%, the Medicaid cuts/work requirements are horrible, and if youth gender medicine back on the table were the price to pay for eliminating the cuts I'd agree wholeheartedly with that trade. My concern is that Murkowski or some other "moderate" Republican might acquiesce to preserving YGM and not healthcare for the poor.

By all means, if you think your Republican Senator can be swayed on the matter, godspeed and I hope you're right.

I am on medicaid and will most likely be thrown off myself, however, ending this nightmare of delusion is more important than anything else right now. It has been too long coming and we may not get another chance. I'll sort my own self out. Dont let fear mongers stop the return to reality based medicine. It's worth it. Restacked!!

I empathize with your position, having shared it since "gender identity" replaced the previous identity politics "oppressed minority" target. However, allowing the toxic Budget Reconciliation Act to pass, and expressing mass support for it over that single issue, is no different from the very thing you've been criticizing all this time. It won't matter if GAC is prohibited for those on Medicaid or the ACA because millions won't have either one if that thing is passed.

The pediatric GAC amendment is not a sufficient reason to support HR 1.

Impeccably argued, and I agree. I have restacked.
